About SALA

The When, What, Why and How’s

Salt and Light Africa Missions (SALA) was born in the chaos of the Covid 19-pandemic. Its founders rose from volunteers who have served together for multiple years on an outreach team in Strandfontein under the umbrella of a different organisation. The hard lockdown in 2020 forced all outreaches and events to halt. We as volunteers felt the Holy Spirit lead us to continue with the outreach because the need was still great and in 2021 we registered as a Non-Profit Company. Till this day we still honour the organisation and volunteers who pioneered the way for us and still work and pray together. We still host the outreach, but have expanded it to minister to Doringbaai and Papendorp as well. Thus, the outreach is now named Weskus Stranddienste (West Coast Outreach). Currently, developing and expanding this project is our first priority, but we are planning to launch different projects down the road.

SALA’s vision is to live out our Christian identity as SALT and LIGHT (Matt. 5:13-16). It is more than a command, it should be our Christian DNA. Jesus said “you are.” We want to take part in the change God wants to bring in South Africa and we pray that it will have a knock on effect to the rest of Africa and the rest of the world.

Our Projects

WSD

Weskus Stranddienste (West Coast Outreach) is a 2-3 week outreach that ministers to Strandfontein, Doringbaai, and Papendorp. A group of 10-20 volunteers give up their December holiday to camp and serve together and share God’s love to the holiday goers and the locals. Weskus Stranddienste facilitates different programs to minister to all ages. The programs serve as a vechile to build relationship and share the Gospel.

Who is behind SALA?

The directors of SALA is Ryno Fermor, Tiaan Venter, Mpho Khoza, Kevin Botha, and Danielle Maroté.

What happens to the donations?

Donations are what makes many of the outreaches possible. The funds are used for operational and administrative expenses. For example on the outreaches there are food, accommodation, and travel costs while in the background there are other costs such as website costs and in the future salaries for full-time workers as the non-profit expands.
